Activities in Martinique
Whether you enjoy beaches, hiking, discovering rum distilleries, typical markets, sport fishing, or water sports, Martinique is full of tourist attractions that guidebooks will give you a comprehensive view of. We particularly recommend the 'Voir' guide published by Hachette Tourisme as well as the free booklet published by the Clément Foundation 'Culture and Heritage: What to See in Martinique'. Here are some of our favorites!
Salines Beach
Lined with coconut palm trees, sea grape trees, and other endemic trees, with crystal clear water and fine sand, the magnificent Salines Beach is located in the commune of Sainte Anne, about ten minutes by car from the villa.
The atmosphere is very family-friendly, though it can get crowded on weekends. From here starts a hike to the Savane des Pétrifications leading to another wild and beautiful beach, l'Anse Trabaud .

Anse Michel Beach
Also about ten minutes by car from the villa, Anse Michel Beach is more sporty and windy. It's particularly popular with kitesurfers, but you can also practice paddleboarding, foiling, sea kayaking, and of course swimming.
A shuttle boat service, Taxi Cap , takes you to visit Ilet Chevalier.
Clément Foundation
Besides the rum distillery, the visit allows you to discover an exuberant tropical garden dotted with modern sculptures as well as the former plantation house classified as a Historic Monument.

Travel time from the villa: about 30 minutes

Balata Garden
A must-see, Balata Garden offers a magical walk among heliconias, tree ferns, palm groves, lotus-filled ponds, as well as a treetop trail 15m high. Note that a bit further on the Route de la Trace: there's a pleasant picnic area at the edge of an arboretum.
Belfort Plantation
One of the rare banana plantations, if not the only one, to offer a small train tour with stops allowing you to understand the stages of this cultivation.

Mount Pelée
Reserved for sports enthusiasts with good shoes, climbing Mount Pelée at the other end of the island (about 90 minutes drive) is an unforgettable experience. Expect to get wet. We recommend, once at the top, descending into the caldera. Be careful of the crevasses which can be up to 80m deep.
Dolphin Watching
Among the many options departing from Trois Ilets or Carbet , prefer catamarans. Guaranteed success especially with children.
